Dual Pins a hit at Grand View!

Hopefully you made it out during one of our dual pin weekends. It was a great way to enjoy the game in a different way, introduce new people to the game and maybe just make the game a little more enjoyable for some.

Thursday Night Football

Besides Packer games, we will be open for Thursday Night Football all season long. Enjoy food and drink specials during the game. Bring out some friends, maybe play some cards, and watch some football on our 70″er flanked by two more flat screens!

Public Welcome

Grand View will be holding it’s annual Stroke Play Tournament on Saturday July 25th and Sunday July 26th.   This event is open to the public and there are flights and prizes for all skills and abilities.   Golfers will play 18 holes on Saturday morning and based on those scores flights will be created for Sundays round.  Scores from Saturday carry over, but you will be placed in a flight of golfers with similar scores to yours.

Entry Fee for Season Pass holders is $25
Non-Members Walking is $63
Non-Members Riding  is $80

This includes your 36 holes of golf, prizes for all flights, and complimentary food and beer after Sundays rounds.

It’s amazing what a little moisture and some heat will do.

The course is greening up nicely. The rain was received well by the course and should only accelerate the greening process. We were blessed with good weather, and a lot of people came out to enjoy the course in April. The course will be even better in May!

#8 Construction

We are happy to announce that the hole 8 construction has been completed. Now the fairway just needs some time to grow and we can get back to playing it from the regular tee. We would like to thank you all for your patience during this growing period of the course.

Dual Pin Weekend! – Friday, May 29th – Sunday, May 31st

Have you ever played big cup golf? If not, the last weekend of May is your chance to give it a try! For three days we will have regular cups and big cups with pins on each green. You choose which you would rather play, or play 9 of big cup and 9 of regular. Should be a ton of fun for all groups who can make it out over the weekend.

Fling Golf comes to Grand View

Fling Sticks are available for rent and each rental includes a small bag of range balls so you can get the hang of it. FlingGolf is a great way for friends and family to enjoy the course even if not everyone is a regular golfer. It’s really easy to get the hang of and it’s a blast!

 Course Opening

We’ve been open a few days already this year. The course came through the winter in amazing shape and we are hoping to take advantage of the mild spring to get golfers out on the course. We will watch the forecast, but as long as the weather cooperates we hope to be up and running full time, seven days a week on April 6th. Please check out our facebook page for the most up to date information and early season course hours, or call the course to see if we’re open. We should be open after 10 am through this Saturday before a possible cool down on Easter.

 New Faces up at Grand View

The course has a number of new hires since last fall and we are very excited about the new talent that has been added to the course.

Travis Bauer is the new course general manager. Travis, the grandson of an original stockholder, grew up in Hortonville and fell in love with the game at Grand View when he was 12 years old. He currently lives in Appleton with his wife Jen, but hopes to move closer to the community. He also coaches the Brillion Lions boys golf team. Travis loves seeing people get out on the course, introducing the game to people and helping people play better to enjoy the game more. He will be introducing many new promotions linked to play this year including: weekday early bird specials, food and drinks specials, adult and child specials, the introduction of Fling Golf to the course and probably a few more along the way. In addition, on course and traditional practice area swing coaching and clinics will be offered. He looks forward to seeing all the people he already knows, meeting the ones he doesn’t and becoming a positive part of the future growth of Grand View and the surrounding community.

Michael Johnson is the new course superintendent.  He takes over for Jeff after his retirement. Mike grew up in Appleton and currently lives there. During his adolescence, Mike was introduced to the game by his neighbor, a Grand View member. Grand View was where he fell in love with the game and decided what a better career than doing something around the game he loved. He seized an opportunity to further his dream by managing a course in South Dakota, but when this opportunity presented itself, Mike jumped at the chance to continue his career closer to his family. He is very thankful and grateful to be given this chance to be a part of the continuing growth and success of the course and looks forward to meeting everyone.

Katherine & Alyssa both received their higher education degrees and are focusing on to their full-time careers. All of us at Grand View appreciate all the great service and experiences they provided our customers. We wish them much success in their future endeavors; everyone will miss you!

In addition to Andy, Colleen, Roy and Kelly returning from last year, we have added four new members to the Grand View family. Caleigh, Alanna, CJ and Grace will bring added enthusiasm to the team. You’ll see more and more of them as we approach nicer weather and we’re very excited to have them. We can’t wait for everyone to meet them and there looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Fling Golf

Something new this year that we will be introducing at Grand View is FlingGolf. We all have had that moment out on the course where we have wanted to throw the ball – now you can! It’s very similar to a lacrosse stick, except the basket is hard plastic and smaller to cradle a golf ball. Pricing is identical traditional golf and the Fling Stick can be rented for $5 and even shared by two Flingers if you choose. The Masters, April 9-12th

We will be running a majors pool this year.
How it works:
Select 3 golfers for each major tournament (The Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, PGA Championship) before the first group tees off on Thursday for each tourny. You can only use a golfer one time through out the year though. So for example, if you picked Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker for the Masters tournament, you can’t select them for any of the remaining major tournaments in 2015.
The goal is to accumulate the most prize money for the week and for the entire year.
Entry is $10 per person and will payout winners for each individual tournament and overall yearly winners after the four tournaments are completed.

The Annual Meeting will be December 8 this year.

We are looking to replace two board members whose term is expiring. We are looking for new blood interested in participating on the board. Sunday Nov 16th

12:00 Noon – Assuming there is not snow on the ground we will have a cross country golf tournament. Get a chance to play Grand View like you never have before!

3:00 – Chili Dump, half-priced drinks, Packer Game on the new big screen, and a proper thank you to Jeff, Roy, and Lenny for all they have done for the course over the years.

Please bring some chili to dump in the pot – hors d’oeuvre and homemade desserts are not required, but much appreciated.

Everyone is welcome – bring a friend!  Wish Lenny, Roy & Jeff  the best on their getting out of the golf course management (they are officially done the 15th). Our hope is we get them all back at the bar & doing a little bartending as well next year. Jeff has agreed to get the new superintendent going next spring.

New Website

The course’s website has gotten a fresh face lift and quite a bit of new content.  Going forward this will allow us to be able to update the website more easily and take full advantage of the web in exposing our wonderful course to potential customers.  You can see the site here http://www.grandviewgolf.org/

If all worked well you should now be receiving this email from our new mailing list software called MailChimp.  This software will allow us to better manage all of your emails and the best part is people can go ahead and add themselves to the list by signing up on our website.  You will also be able to manage your own account should your email address change or if for some reason you no longer wish to receive our newsletter.

The club is once again holding its Friday night fish and steak fries.  These are a great way to get up to the club and socialize with your friends and family and a great way to end the work week.  Below is the schedule of the upcoming events

Stroke Play Tournament

The board has set the dates for the annual stroke play championship for June 28th and29th.   Cost will be $25 for members or $61/walking $75/riding for non-members.  This includes 36 holes of golf, prizes, and food and drinks after Sunday’s round.   To sign up please stop up at the clubhouse.  

This is an event for EVERYONE of all skill levels.   There will be divisions for all skill levels and really is a fun event.   Tee times are early on Saturday and Sunday mornings so you can compete and still have time in the afternoon to work on that to-do list or spend the afternoon up at the clubhouse enjoying some nice cold beverages and watch the Brewers – the choice is yours!
